About Me

About Debra

Pinpoint the day she became an artist?  It would seem she arrived on earth with crayons in hand.  Debra Lyons is a third generation artist.  Growing up in that atmosphere, she was given the freedom to explore and experience art in many forms.  She loves everything creative and says that “to not create is to stagnate”

Adding to all Debra gleaned from her creative family, she studied at San Diego State University.  Over the years she continued her studies with many accomplished artists to hone her techniques in watercolor and acrylic. You will notice as you view her work, that she uses different styles and mediums.  She enjoys painting in this manner to keep fresh and excited about her work and refuses to be defined by just one style.

Debra’s paintings are exciting and colorful.  She interprets and catches the spirit of what she sees. Her paintings are uplifting and joyful.  With her impressionistic and abstract styles, she starts to tell a story that the viewer can finish and make their own.

It is Debra’s hope that her paintings and poetry move you and touch you in a new way; that every time you look at her paintings you see something new and different.

“Art is an expression of our Creator. It awakens a place deep within our being…awakening our senses, both natural and spiritual;Stirring our spirit, moving our soul, provoking our mind.Art should uplift and inspire.Art should take hold of you and pull you from one realm to another.“I look at my art as God’s matrix. Where, from within Him and from Him, my art originates, develops and takes form.”

Inspiration is all around us. We just need to look. Looking past the familiar, you can begin to see something new, and that sparks your imagination. From there you can go anywhere!

The fun part about creating art is that you can use anything. You can use sticks, brushes, pallet knives, hands and fingers to apply paint, inks, plaster, wax, resin, or mud to a two or three dimensional surface and bring it to life.

I could post a resume of past accomplishments but I prefer to look forward and allow my present body of work to speak for itself.
